So, who is this “Monorail Mike” guy, anyway?
About the author
CHESTERBROOK, Pa., July 22, 2008 — Mike Devine, 33, is the author and designer of monorailmike.com, a personal Web site he launched in March 2001.
The name of Mike’s site comes from his internship on the Walt Disney World College Program during the summer of 1995. Based on his unique work assignment, his new Disney colleagues soon dubbed him “Monorail Mike.” The way Mike figures it, he’s been called much worse.
Mike was born in 1974 in Minneapolis, Minn., grew up in West Chester, Pa., and graduated with honors from Penn State University in 1996. Mike is reasonably certain that he was brainwashed during his four years at University Park, given that he still bleeds blue and white to this day and eagerly looks forward to watching his beloved Nittany Lions on the gridiron each fall.
For the last five years, Mike has been employed in the IT division at the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline. (He never assumes others’ interest in the technical nature of his work, so when asked about his occupation in person, he usually responds with a more concise answer: “computer stuff.”)
In his spare time, Mike enjoys playing his acoustic guitar, relaxing with friends at the Jersey shore on summer weekends, skiing a few times each winter, taking plenty of digital photos, and playing catchy rock music a little too loud. Mike will resume his workout regimen of running and weight training at the beginning of August (he swears!), and is about to start reading Years of Minutes, a collection of commentaries from my fellow curmudgeon, Andy Rooney.
Mike purchased his first home in June 2004 in Chesterbrook, Pa., just a short walk from Valley Forge National Park and about 20 miles northwest of Philadelphia. He is actively dating, and he’s a Scorpio, whatever that means.
